Hey everybody,

I live near NYC and Hoboken and I like to approach there during the day. I'm also really young and a competitive swimmer(so my lung game strong).

Should I be concerned about all this Coronavirus drama or proceed as usual? To be honest, it makes some approaches more fun as I joke about the disease, even using it to give girls "corona virus hugs," where I narrow in and raise my elbow to them while they comply and do the same early on in my interactions.

My take on this is that I will always have a chance of dying at any given day to something like a car crash(which has far more fatalities, as Seppuku mentioned on the off-topic thread), therefore, the extra minuscule percentage of suffering great losses from this disease does not warrant becoming a hermit out of fear.
Granted, I will definitely be taking sanitary measures to limit contagion.

What do you guys think about this? Are any of you guys hibernating for this one?

I also happen to live in nyc. Me personally I haven't made an effort to go outside to practice game because of reservations I already had regarding my own insecurities and lack of drive to get good with pickup ,but this pandemic kinda reinforces my lazyness and inertia a bit more. Not only do I gotta deal with the regular obstacles that come with pickup like girls on auto pilot, rejections, poor game on my part .Now I gotta deal with women being cognisant or paranoid of this new virus and not wanting to mingle with a guy who's a complete stranger and risk getting sick for nothing. I know that's just kind of an excuse to justify it to myself. I'll still go to work, but I won't try to pick up more shifts or hours and i'm thinking why risk it? I wanna minimize my time on the trains and in public and if you get it you might not be aware you have it. And I don't wanna pass it to my family. I don't even know how much I will go to the gym now. I'm sure the more ambitious, hard working and driven guys on this forum won't miss a beat and keep doing their thing. But me it's like i'm still not 100% sure how I will handle this situation and proceed moving forward. I will still be going to cali later this month as I have already bought plane tickets with friends and i've never traveled before so that hasn't changed. That's my honest take on it.

In Asia, people party on ladies night with mask.

Let that sink in. :)

Hey,

my comment on the other thread was not an attempt to minimize the potential of this virus to become a serious threat. I used numbers and compared it to a normal flu, in terms of total casualties. In actuality, the coronavirus is both more deadly (in terms of "fatality rate") and more contagious than a normal flu. But simply, at this stage, the spread is not significant enough to require altering your habits. As of today 12 March, it's 1300 cases in the United States as a whole, out of 330 millions people. Your odds of coming across one of them are, at this stage, extremely low.

While you should keep an eye on how the situation evolve, it's important to remain rational. My position is very much in line with BlackDragon's position and his 2% rule. Namely, if something has less than 2% chance of affecting your life, you should not worry about it. Here, unless you were on one of those cruise ships, the odds of your life being ever impacted are way below 0.1%.

So if you ask me, I'd say you should just keep living your life as usual, including dating. During your dates however, I would carefully avoid joking about that with your girl. It's already impossible to have a rational discussion about that with most people around you. And girls are normally the less rational beings.

Obviously, keep an eye on how the situation evolve. If tomorrow the US gets to 100,000 cases, the above logic no longer applies.

Hopefully all this extreme reactions we are seeing will have one positive effect: to kill the problem in the egg before it gets a chance to become a serious one. Like BlackDragon says, in a year from now, in most likelihood this will be all forgotten.

Going to a local venue instead of a tourist club like I originally planned. That's about it.

I'll do daygame as usual. In Romania there are under 50 cases. The only problem is that the city is emptier than usual, which makes is harder to find girls.

This. Last week I noticed clubs weren't quite as busy as they normally are. Not surprising if more and more people elect to stay home and avoid crowds. So for game I imagine that means if you go out, you'll just have to live with lower volume for a while. On the plus side, you just may be able to be more aggressive in inviting girls over right off the bat!

the right date makes getting her back home a piece of cake

Thanks for your responses everybody. I think right now is still a good time to go out and make some approaches because it will only get worse from here. Once the number of infected people begins to spike I imagine the streets will be deserted and the dry era will begin :(...

I watch daily the WHO reports and in China the number of infections is dramatically low (about 20 since yesterday). I think in two months it will all be over in the rest of the world.

After China put in some draconian measures. Don't expect every government to be this consistent. I hope you are right though, but remain skeptical.

I like our attitude: pandemy hits the world and we're still gaming. One day we'll create a topic: What are your takes on gaming knowing that the Apocalypse will come next week

Seriously now, as I said: the only thing that is changed is that the city is getting empty.

No better way to go out, than die doing what you love.

the only thing that is changed is that the city is getting empty.

If it wasn't clear. The reason I said I decided im not to go to the tourist venue tomorrow is not because of bigger risk of infection (it's a meme), but because it will likely be pretty empty due to European travel ban

>Expecting China to tell the true story
Lawl. This goes for every single government on the planet. But cmon. China kept exporting food under a famine that killed 40-50 million people because Mao wanted to show the world that China had things under control and that they were doing just fine. They will do WHATEVER it takes. With that said, i think politicians are downplaying the severity of the virus, simply to not stampede the herd. I don't blame them, it is objectively the most effective thing to do compared to screaming at everyone to panic which will kill the national infrastructure. I simply just know better and will trust my instincts instead. It's like what a woman says and what a woman does. They say "no worries it is just a flu, it is evening out in China and 99% of fatalities are people over 60 years, everything will be under control" and then they go right ahead and shut the whole fucking country down. Stay safe out there lads. No one can say for sure, but shit could hit the fan. Either it's a bluff or it is not. Better safe than sorry.

Back to the subject. I have been wondering this myself. Im booked up in the weekdays with work, lifting, chores etc (they closed the gyms here now rip) so i wanna do cold approaching on the weekends, but now all this corona shit has happened and i don't really know.
You guys sure it's a good idea?

@Peterdk234 I'm going to isolate myself. Luckily my job allows me to do. Training will be done at my home. But damsels are not worth the disease.

While your at it....Make sure you re-read ciadini's chapter 3 on how we can be brought to the mistaken belief that something is a bigger deal than it actually is, solely due to it being given more attention :)

Geez, my post really re-reads dramatic now thay I look at it. I already took what your saying in account actually. And I also get your point, regardless I have people who are close to me who are of frail health and I will try my best to protect them. The personal accounts of what people are experiencing in Italy are nothing to laugh at. You were European right? Spain is about to or has announced state of emergency. The Czech republic has closed it's border to multiple nationalities and has also announced state of emergency etc. etc. Maybe it is a big joke and I sincerely hope so, but my gut tells me otherwise.

If anything I suspect that governments have underestimated this threat and are playing catch up. But only time will tell.
