All right, I hear you guys.

The curse of success. Google starts sending the forum a bunch more traffic, so now instead of guys finding it via GC, they are finding it via Google Search, then you get all these clueless newbies flooding in.

I've made a few updates -- here's where we stand:

  • Rookies (Rank 0) and Space Monkeys (Rank 1) now can only REPLY but not START THREADS in:
    • General
    • Tactics & Techniques (← has already been the case in this forum for several years)
    • Texting & Online
    • Lifestyle
    • Relationships
    • Sex
    • Off Topic (I know no one suggested this, but it should stop most of the "politics newbs" who come on here to post provocative stuff in OT as soon as they join, which IMO is pretty annoying/distracting)
  • They continue to have their original access to:
    • Beginners
    • Field Reports
    • Journals
    • Marketplace
    • Wingman Finder
    • Community
  • (And they continue to be unable to even reply on Advanced)

I think this hits the happy medium of not totally banning them from participating in these boards, but restricting their ability to start threads there.

Obviously, if we have some idiot who goes crazy spamming nonsense replies on one of these boards, that will be a case where a dude just needs to be warned or banned. But in my experience, stopping them from creating threads should stop most of the noise.

(I made that change to T/T a few years back after new guys kept not reading the guidelines for that board and either posting hypothetical non-field-tested tactics "Here's a great idea I just had -- never tested but maybe it would work!" or else question posts like "What do you guys do if blah blah blah?" -- which, again, are not original field-tested contributions. It cleaned that board up a lot, and we haven't really had an issue of newbies spamming T/T posts with irrelevant replies or anything)

Longer-term, I'd like to have an auto-suggest module that can create reports suggest to mods when a new user might be ready to bump up to a higher rank. That way quality users do not have to wait for us to sit down for a complete rank review, which sometimes we do not do for many months.

I had an LLM work out the logic for me, and it was quite good. Then I had the LLM write the add-on for me, and spent a few hours trying to get it working before throwing my hands up in disgust. So that will definitely still be something we need a human to code up.

OTHER OPTIONS

If we find newbies are coming on and spamming Beginners and that is getting too annoying, then we have a few more options to deal with that:

  • Limit Rank 0s and 1 in how many new threads they can create in a certain span of time (like, e.g., 1 thread per day for Rookies and 2 per day for Space Monkeys, or something)

  • Separate out Beginner Board notification from the rest of them, so guys checking the "Recent posts" box can see that split between what's in Beginners vs. what is everywhere else

  • Or if guys are using the "New posts" button, maybe we can add some way to highlight posts more based on the forum they are in, or the rank of the member posting them, etc.

But let's see if restricting where Rank 0s & 1s can start threads cleans things up before we start doing more stuff here.

NEW CONTENT LIMITATIONS

Made one further change. I've installed an add-on that is supposed to limit how much content users can create.

Assuming it is working correctly(?), the only affected users should be Rookies and Space Monkeys. I've set the restrictions as follows:

  • Able to create two (2) new threads per day
  • Able to make eight (8) posts/replies per day
  • Able to initiate a DM conversation with two (2) users per day (Space Monkeys only; Rookies cannot initiate new DMs)
  • Able to write up to four (4) messages in DM conversations per day

Once a user is upgraded to Tool-Bearing Hominid or above, all these restrictions are lifted.

If you guys think we're restricting new members too much here, let me know what you think the limits should be. Though I think 2 threads per day and 8 posts per day is probably enough, and I also don't want newbs spamming DMs to people either.

Also, if this add-on turns out to be glitchy in any way / the wrong people are being affected / etc., let me know that too.

I think this is perfect, should lead to more thoughtful posts from new members. I’m not sure of the tech involved but it may be helpful to add some kind of popup, something like:

“Hey! New Member, Welcome to the Skilled Seducer forum, these are the guidelines and dynamics when it comes to posting etc etc.”

With brief reasonings behind why there is a limit, and how to make posts that lead to having the limits lifted.

Being a new member on a forum like this can be intimidating if they’re coming in with the right intent. So a gentle but firm nudge in the right direction maybe won’t make us come across more intimidating than it already is at face value.

The guys with bad intent or lack of wherewithal to understand why these rules are in place will prob still burn up their posts on the things everyone has already been complaining about.

yeah I think a letter of intent could be helpful "this place is for discussing technical pick up skills. It is intended for guys who are actively in field practicing, or have a good deal of experience in field and share knowledge"

maybe also pointing them towards something will help them format field reports well and such.

“Hey! New Member, Welcome to the Skilled Seducer forum, these are the guidelines and dynamics when it comes to posting etc etc.”
Good idea. And to minimize confusion, this popup should also appear when they attempt to make a post that they aren't allowed to.

E.g. newbie tries to make a post in General, when they hit Submit they get an error that says "Oops! You're not allowed to do that right now. For more information, please take a look at this (link to ranking posting rules)".

Then instead of complaining in Chat they'll be like oh okay I can only post in Beginners right now.

I've got it set up now to send a welcome PM to all new users.

Here's the text of the welcome message:

Welcome PM said:
Welcome aboard!

You’ve joined Skilled Seducer, the hub of the modern seduction community.

Here you’ll have access to cutting edge seduction strategies, a place to share reports, get feedback, and ask questions, and be around some of the most talented active seducers in the world.

Due to this forum’s prominence, we receive a constant stream of new members, many of them new to seduction. To avoid the same questions being posed repeatedly, we request that before you ask anything you ‘DAFS’ (“Do A F***ing Search’!) to see if your topic’s been addressed in the past. We also place some restrictions on new members:

As a new member, you’ll be able to participate in discussions on almost every board on the forum (save for Advanced). However, you will be limited to starting threads only on the following boards:

✅ Beginners — ask beginner questions here or advise other members who are new
✅ Field Reports — share reports of your outings in-the-field; get feedback & advice
✅ Journals — maintain a journal of your progress in seduction
✅ Wingman Finder — if no thread for your city exists, start a new one to find wings
✅ Marketplace — requests for paid services or offers of your own (note: must be approved by mods)
✅ Community — ask questions, give feedback, or voice issues with the forum and community

As a Rookie (brand new member), you’ll also be restricted from sending Private Messages. Once you reach the rank of Space Monkey, you’ll be able to PM members who have their messages open.

New members also have several post limitations:

• Start up to two (2) new threads per day
• Author up to eight (8) posts/replies per day
• Initiate a private message (PM) conversation with up to two (2) new users per day (Space Monkey rank)
• Send up to four (4) PM messages per day (Space Monkey rank)

These limitations are in place to help new members get acquainted with the forum culture and philosophy without bombarding the forum with content (we know; you’re very excited. We’re excited to have you here too! But we need to get you familiarized with this place before we let you run totally wild).

Before posting in any board, please read the stickied “READ BEFORE POSTING” rules for that board. Each board has its own unique rules, in addition to the general forum rules.

We also strongly recommend you read the following posts:

HOW TO BEHAVE ON A FORUM: a primer on getting along with your fellow members:

HOW TO KNOW IF MEMBERS ARE LEGIT: how can you tell someone isn’t just making stuff up?

ADVICE FOR MEN WITH PERSONALITY DISORDERS: if you are autistic, antisocial, have ADHD, BPD, or another disorder that makes it difficult for you to function within a group, read this:

And finally, the NEWBIE ASSIGNMENT: the best way to get yourself acquainted with the art of cold approach seduction:

PARTING NOTE:

The focus of this forum is on active skill-building and self-development.

It’s expected if you are posting here that you are in the field, or have extensive in-field experience.

Our culture is very anti-“keyboard jockey” — that is, people offering opinions and hypothetical takes on things they have not actually done, or have not been able to repeat.

Everyone has an opinion, and everyone is welcome to theirs — but here, we discuss battle-tested tactics and strategies proven in the field to work, that way we can all get better together (and not be stuck talking theory, like almost everywhere else on the web is).

You won’t find another community online like Skilled Seducer. We go out of our way to keep it this way, too.

Have fun, get acquainted with the community, get in-field, and let’s get you seducing some beautiful girls!

I believe the "new thread" button simply does not even appear if the user doesn't have permissions to post in a given board.

Hopefully, with us telling them in the welcome PM which boards they have access to, plus them being able to see the new thread button in some forums but not others, they will be able to figure it out?

If we're still getting confused guys writing "how come I can't start a thread in XYZ forum?" though LMK and we'll think about other solutions.

We could update all the "READ BEFORE POSTING" forum guidelines, for instance, to note which forums guys will get access to at which ranks.

Make stricter rules for general. Misposted/overtly beginner level posts are moved to beginners. Add 2 elders to function as admins - no ban power, just merging/moving/locking thread functions like I myself more or less have.

I know I'm new here but I have an idea that actually might be helpful to you in tackling this problem:

You could also add a MCQ quiz on forum rules, for new posters, before the very first post in each sub-forum. Unlimited attempts, but you have to score a 100%.

That adds an extra step of "work", or a hoop to jump through if you will, that someone who made an account just to shitpost is going to avoid. Shitposters are generally lazy.

But then again, someone who is really motivated and wants to post here, after some time of lurking is not going to be content with just lurking anymore and will eventually make an account and breeze through the MCQ.

Might be an easy way to filter out trolls, or just to have an added layer of protection.
